So a woman throws her bra onto the stage at the Leonard Cohen concert Thursday night after the 4th or so encore.  No doubt it was the lyrics of L.C. that prompted this offering (a dare? a reminiscence of concerts of glory days past?)  Or just Austin, mostly Austin?  As an out of towner myself by birth, I have come to appreciate the yes, relaxed, but moreover relaxed enough to be demonstrative or expressive, even florid personality that can be Austin.  So the audience was on their feet; they whistled and hollered, respectfully however, and it was somehow appropriate for this poet of the holy and the profane.  Mr. Cohen acknowledged his connection to Austin – it was 14 years since he’d been here, age 60 a “crazy kid with a dream”.  The encores continued with a lullabye and songs of parting, and finally his entire crew, down to wardrobe and makeup, onstage to bid us farewell, promising not to forget the evening even though we cannot know when we’d meet again.  The poignant and the mystical – joining his journey to everyone’s,  it was an evening of giving and the best concert I’ve ever attended.  Perhaps the reason there were so many tears is because we never thought we’d get the chance in our lifetimes to see him.  Thank you, Austin – I know you had to add an extra night to accommodate the demand.
